Toy Party Organizers Present $40,000 Donation to Sheltering Arms As Well As Hundreds of Toys and Gift Cards for Families in Need
(Atlanta, December 14, 2007) - With Christmas less than two weeks away, several Atlanta area nonprofit organizations will celebrate early thanks to the recent Toy Party that collected over 5,000 toys and gift cards as well as cash donations totaling $110,000. On December 2nd, more than 4,500 people attended the 5th annual Toy Party hosted by the Atlanta-based nonprofit For the Kid in All of Us and Delta Air Lines at the Atlanta Apparel Mart, an increase in attendance of more than 18% over 2006, when 3,800 attended. Toys and gifts collected this year increased by 25% and 10% respectively over 2006.
“We surpassed every goal our board set for the 5th annual Toy Party, and I couldn’t be more proud of our accomplishments,” said Alex Wan, president and founder of For the Kid in All of Us. “Seeing a smile on a child’s face on Christmas morning that otherwise would have nothing to smile about is what the Toy Party is all about.
“This is a great way for me to conclude my duties as president of the organization, as I am passing the baton to our incoming board chair and president Frank Bragg who I know will bring lots of energy and enthusiasm to next year’s Toy Party as well as other For the Kid in All of Us activities including Backpack in the Park. I look forward to continue working with the organization in an advisory capacity.”
Over the next few days board members and volunteers from For the Kid in All of Us will be delivering toys, gift cards, and other contributions to several Atlanta area nonprofit organizations that support underprivileged children and young adults, including Sheltering Arms.
About For the Kid in All of Us: For the Kid in All of Us was founded in 2003 by a group of friends seeking to make a difference in their local community. Recognizing the staggering number of underprivileged children in Atlanta and in Georgia, the group sought not only to raise awareness, but also to lessen the strugtles of families and children during the winter holiday season. What resulted from their vision and efforts was The Toy Party, an annual event where gays and lesbians in Atlanta could come together to support a cause that affects children across Georgia. Since 2003, The Toy Party has distributed over 12,000 toys and gift cards and donated $270,000 to local charities within the Atlanta community. In July 2006, the organization added Backpack in the Park to collect backpacks and school supplies. Since then the group has donated over 1,200 backpacks and gift cards to Atlanta Public Schools, City Schools of Decatur, and Tobie Grant Manor.
