Teach Today›Reach Tomorrow is a $10 million major gifts campaign that grew out of careful strategic planning by The Sheltering Arms Board of Directors. It is designed to secure the future stability of one of the nation’s most innovative, effective, and respected providers of family-centered early education. Specifically, gifts to this campaign will help fund these critical needs:

Capital Support for two new, expanded facilities and updates to fourteen others in order to ensure all Sheltering Arms children are served in state-of-the-art environments necessary for strong child outcomes ($6,332,606)

Tuition Scholarships for low-income, working families who don’t qualify for federal aid, but can’t afford full tuition ($2,762,773)

Teacher Development & Retention for a qualified, experienced and stable staff vital for child development ($904,621)

Launched with a $1 million grant from The Goizueta Foundation, a $2 million grant from The Whitehead Foundation, and gifts from 100% of our board, the Teach Today›Reach Tomorrow campaign will allow Sheltering Arms to serve more working families, especially in tough economic times. One in six Americans are now living in poverty, and more than 600 Georgia child care centers were forced to close in recent months because families could no longer pay tuition without assistance. In this environment, we have seen our long waiting lists grow even longer—almost two children waiting for every space available—and at the same time our board has projected long range external trends that threaten the stability of funding required for quality care that gets results. The Teach Today›Reach Tomorrowcampaign is a critical element in our board’s strategy for ensuring that, no matter what the future holds, Sheltering Arms will continue to be equipped to serve those most in need with the research-based quality early education children need for successful futures.

When families can work without sacrificing the care and education of their young children, and when they can work or function as a stronger family unit because they have access to the support networks and resources they need to succeed, then the entire community benefits. Research has shown investments in programs like Sheltering Arms can give communities a return on investment of as much as 17:1, based on savings on remediation, public assistance, and incarceration.
